DIY Projects!

Hello,
I have been busy doing some redecorating around our house and a lot of it has been DIY. I hit up our local Goodwill to look for frames. I found some decent ones and I spray painted them with a metallic bronze spray paint from Valspar from Lowes to make them fit better into our living room.

Then I pulled Blaise into Hobby Lobby - his favorite place in the world (wink, wink) to help me pick out foliage for a big vase we have in the living room because HL was having a 50% off sale (on pretty much everything in the store, p.s. it is still going on now). So the living room is pretty much done.... except for the curtains, I want new ones and I think I am going to attempt to make those as well....but we will see on that one. We also purchased new cabinet knobs for our bathroom and kitchen (all 50% off as well at HL). I have a plan to re-do the cabinets as well... I have the idea and plan in my head, I can't wait to see it executed!

The other frames I bought from goodwill and some we already had (fro Michael's) I spray painted green to go in my son's room. I am doing his room in a forest animal theme, so  decided to try and make baby Forest animal silhouettes.... I think they turned out cute, what do you think? I know one thing, they are staying in his room for a while, lol, they were not easy!

Oh and I have to say I LOVE RichTex Fabrics on County Rd. 13 between Daphne and Fairhope, AL. I got this adorable Hooty owl fabric to make my son some pillows for his bed and I think the owls are just precious and fit right in with the forest theme. I am also trying to get my son, Rowan, a growth chart made... I made Blaise go with me to Lowes to pick out a 6ftx1ft piece of wood so I can get started on it. He wasn't happy when I told him we had to fit it in the back of his car, haha. I haven't started on that yet, but I hope to sometime this weekend. I cannot wait to get everything pulled together so I can post pics of his room and the living room! But for now, enjoy the ones of the process :)

Here is the Hooty fabric from RichTex :
I can't wait to make his pillows! So I better get to work!

What a Day!

What a great day today was. I got my hair done! Yay! Just a few highlights for summer.

But more importantly, our good friend, Shapard, welcomed his first born son into the world today! We are so excited we got to visit and meet this precious bundle of joy! My son, Rowan, 17 months old, went to the hospital with us. He wanted to touch the new baby so bad, but I wouldn't let him. He really didn't know what to think. He was pretty well behaved during the visit, I was proud of him!

So we were pretty hungry after we left the hospital and we decided on Whataburger. I guess because we do not have one near us, and ..... we really like it (guilty)! Rowan loved it! We ordered him a kid's burger and a really really watered down lemonade (he couldn't tell, he was just happy to have a big boy cup) and he just though he was the biggest boy ever! I will post some photos from our trip.

Yumminess

Ok, so we had something like these at a wedding last weekend. At the wedding, they had bacon wraps and inside was duck, cream cheese and jalapeño pepper. I think they were cooked on the grill... they were AMAZING! If you have never tried duck, it is pretty tasty. I do not eat it often, but my favorite place to get it is at Zea's in Mobile, AL. Anyway, last night I made boneless BBQ ribs in the oven (with my homemade BBQ sauce I learned from my Nana :) And today, I saw we had everything in the fridge to make a snack like the duck appetizer we had at the wedding (but I substituted pork for the duck). So, I sliced some of the rib meat and spread cream cheese on bacon slices. Then, I placed the rib meat on the bacon, along with a slice of jalapeño pepper... I then rolled them up and (normally would stick a toothpick in to hold it together, but I was out) and stuck them in a 450 degree oven. I left them in there for about ten minutes, and then turned the oven to broil for about 3 to 5 min. They came out crisp and delicious! I figure you can make the same appetizer with any meat... I am thinking venison will be good, chicken, duck of course as well as pork. I think we will serve these at every BBQ we have now! They are so scrumptious!

Help the Southeast!

As many of you know, there has been a terrible outbreak of tornados among the Southern states including AL., GA., and TN. I found this link to a site that has a list of places, phone numbers and addresses of places to go to and who to contact in different cities if you want to donate and help out. The Red Cross, Salvation Army, local WABB radio staition in Mobile, AL., MCconoghy Drug Store in Satsuma, AL., are all places taking donations. Monetary donations are what I have heard are needed the most, but anything helps. Please keep the families and friends of the tornado victims in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless! Click here for the Link to list of places to donate.

I have seen these around, but decided I wanted mine to be photos of local things/ places. This is my first set of photos and I cannot wait to get out there and expand my photo alphabet! Here are a few I have done so far, but more are to come!
